DELPHOS — Thomas A. Gordon, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, at the age of 85.
Born in Ottoville to Glen and Katheryn (Metz) Gordon, in September 1939, Tom made his way to Delphos to attend high school at St. John’s, where he met the love of his life, Leann. After 30+ years of great memories in Delphos, Tom and Leann moved to Convoy, where they spent another 30 years on a property they loved, Stoneledge Lake. Tom and Leann took an old stone quarry and transformed it into a beautiful gathering place —hosting family reunions, holiday gatherings, card clubs, and a few family baptisms.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Tom spent 30 years at Haviland Drainage and during that time also established his own farm drainage company. He was a man who loved the land—whether through his work or his passions. Tom found great joy in gardening, bird watching, riding his bike, tinkering in his barn, and creating walking trails throughout the property. Each grandchild had a special garden or trail in their name, a testament to Tom’s love and thoughtfulness. He was a resourceful problem solver and enjoyed building various contraptions from trailers to gates and retractable bird houses for his favorite purple martins.
Tom never met a stranger—his easy smile and outgoing personality made him a friend to all. He and Leann were blessed with friendships that lasted more than 60 years. Family was his greatest joy, and he was a loving and supportive father to Stephen Gordon, CSM (US Army retired) James (Ellen) Gordon, Col. Donald (Jody) Gordon (USMC retired), Nicholas (Leah) Gordon and Laura (Vincent) Raimo. He cherished his time with his family and was blessed with many grandchildren who learned to fish and swim at the quarry.
Visitation will be held on from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home, Delphos. A Mass in his memory will take place on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10 am at St. John’s Church.
Memorial contributions in Tom’s name may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Tom’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and love for his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
