MIDDLE POINT — Van Wert Lodge 1197, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, recently donated $1000.00 to the Middle Point Volunteer Fire Department. The department used the monies to purchase a Pi-Lit Rechargeable sequential flare and Med Evan LZ kit. These road flares when deployed on the ground “link up” to each other flashing in pattern to direct traffic around an accident scene. The second part of these flares is the Med Evac LZ. These can be deployed to mark a site for a landing zone for Medical helicopters. These are a green led light that is IR rated. This allows the helicopter pilot to use their on-board night vision to spot the LZ from 5-6 miles out.
DELPHOS — Our Red, White and Blue Celebration was loads of fun! We enjoyed our lunch and everyone received a door prize. The Lima Beane Chorus was great - we look forward to having them return! The 50/50 drawing winners were: Helen Mueller, Mary Murray and Sharon Smith.

LIMA — The following is the weekly report concerning construction and maintenance work on state highways within the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 for 2024. Allen and Putnam counties State Route 12, State Route 115, and State Route 613 in Putnam, Allen, and Hancock counties at the following locations will be restricted to one lane through the work zone beginning Aug.
VAN WERT — The following individuals appeared in Van Wert County Court of Common Pleas: Thursday, August 22, 2024 Change of Plea/Sentencing Kevin Davies, Jr., 34, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty of non-support of dependents, F5. He was then sentenced to two years community control, to obtain employment within 60 days, 90 days jail to be suspended if employed within 60 days, 30 days jail at a later date per probation, random screens, mental health and substance abuse assessment and treatment, and ordered to pay court costs.
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.— Unilever is recalling approximately 137,000 cases of Popsicle Jolly Rancher Frozen Confection Pop products (single serve offerings) because the products may contain milk, which is not listed as an ingredient on the label. Persons who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product.
CLEVELAND — The American Red Cross of Northern Ohio is encouraging everyone to take critical actions during National Preparedness Month this September to be ready for worsening disasters. Deadly storms and floods, raging fires and extreme heat are becoming more frequent and intense due to the climate crisis and families are experiencing the effects.
