St. John’s returns to winning ways with win at Fort Recovery

FORT RECOVERY — After a tough three-week stretch, the St. John’s Blue Jays (2-3) found redemption Friday night with a 2714 triumph over Fort Recovery (1-4) in a key Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) matchup, led by Drew Boggs’ explosive performance and a pivotal fumble recovery.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew

Transfer it to the slow cooker, and then brown the carrots, celery, onions, and garlic in the skillet.

A Monday’s day-in-the-life diary

4 a.m. My alarm rings and I get up to start another day. Daughter Verena gets ready to go across the road to stay with daughter Loretta and her boys until Dustin comes home from work. I always watch at the door to make sure she gets across the road and to their house okay.

Drought and lawns

Last week, I shared information on how our current dry weather pattern affects both agronomic crops and weed control strategies for the fall. This week, we will dive into the effects of the drought on lawns and how to best manage them when rainfall is lacking.

Ohio cropland values and cash rent

Every two years, Ohio State Economist Barry Ward surveys rural appraisers, agricultural leaders, professional farm managers, farmers, landowners, Farm Service Agency personnel, OSU Extension educators, and others on their knowledge of cropland values and cash rents. The latest survey was conducted from January to April, in 2024 with 131 participants. Barry had adequate data for only Northwestern and Southwestern Ohio. So not enough data was collected for other parts of the state.

Warnement marks 30 years as firefighter

DELPHOS — Acting Delphos Fire Chief Scott Warnement decided on a career in firefighting at a young age. “I’m from Putnam County and that’s what a lot of people I knew did, volunteer for the fire and EMS,” he said.
