DELPHOS — James Leo Fischer, 80, of Delphos, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Vancrest of Delphos. He was born at home, in Delphos on May 21, 1944, to Leo and Beatrice (Elwer) Fischer. They both preceded him in death. On August 5, 1967, he was united in marriage to Jane Reddington. They were married for 57 years. She survives in Delphos. James graduated from St. John’s High School in 1962 and attended St. Joseph’s College.
James is survived by his children, Julie (Kevin) Beckmann of Auburn, IN, Jennifer (Darin) Finch of Columbus, Jill (Jamey) Wisher of Delphos, and Jeffrey (Jen) Fischer of Columbus; grandchildren, Mark, Scott, Lauren, Matthew Beckmann, Abby and Adam Finch, Lincoln Wisher, and Quinn and Beau Fischer; siblings, Charles “Chuck” (Sherry) Fischer of Quincy, MI, Roger (Joyce) Fischer of Springboro, OH, Ed (Vickey) Fischer of Delphos, and Helen (Klaus) Bauch of Long Beach, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
James was a co-owner with his brothers of Fischer Plumbing and Heating, where he worked for over 50 years. After retiring, he worked part-time at Delphos ACE Hardware. James was an active member of Kiwanis spending many hours involved in their fundraising projects including playgrounds at Stadium, Waterworks, and Garfield Parks and the Splash Pad, and a member of the Delphos Eagles. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and served on various church committees including Parish Council, Finance, Maintenance, Eucharistic minister, Greeter, Festival serving coffee for 50+ years, Band and Athletic Boosters. James coached Little League and ACME baseball for many years. He also volunteered for the American Heart Association and was a caregiver. In his free time, he enjoyed yard work.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial viewing will be held from 4:00p.m. -8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.
