DELPHOS — Herbert G. Gerdeman, 97, of Delphos, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 5, 2024 at St. Rita’s Hospice.
He was born June 10, 1927 in Delphos to Alfred and Clara (Reindel) Gerdeman, who both preceded him in death. On Aug. 18, 1951 he married Clarann (Hoersten) Gerdeman who preceded him in death on November 17, 2019.]
Herbert is survived by three sons, Ron (Sharon) Gerdeman of Findlay, Mike Gerdeman of Lima and Dale Gerdeman of Delphos; a daughter, Deb Jones of Delphos; a sister, Lois (Ken) Blankemeyer of Delphos; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Gerdeman of Delphos; six grandchildren, Ryan (Kristie) Jones of Van Wert, Gregory (Jayme) Jones of Elida, Melissa (Shawn) Mount of Van Wert, Dan (Jenn) Gerdeman of Doylestown, Jeff Gerdeman of Findlay and Brian (Breanne) Gerdeman of Columbus; and eleven great-grandchildren, Lillian, Katelyn and Kenzie Mount, Lauren, Abigail, Emily, Jacob, Samantha and Madilyn Jones, and Henry and Natalie Gerdeman. And a great granddaughter on the way.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Bob Jones; and four brothers, Elmer (Ida Mae) Gerdeman, Irvin (Carlene) Gerdeman, Richard Gerdeman and Donald (Cecelia) Gerdeman.
Herbert was a 1945 graduate of Delphos St. John’s and a 1948 graduate of Coyne Electric in Chicago. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked many years at Central Soya, now Bunge, as an electrician. In 1991 he retired from the Lima Ford Engine Plant after 25 years. Herbert was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, a life member of the Knights of Columbus 1362, a life member of the VFW and a UAW 1219 retirees. He enjoyed sports especially baseball, reading, traveling and his family. He dearly loved his grandkids and his great grandkids.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-5: p.m. Tuesday at Weber Funeral Home,where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 5 p.m.
