DELPHOS – Helen M. Kaverman, age 93, of Delphos, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Vancrest of Delphos.
Helen was born July 25, 1931, in Delphos to Richard J. and Marie E. (Krieft) Grothause, who both preceded her in death. On Oct. 27, 1951, she married Hubert R. ‘Hups’ Kaverman, who preceded her in death on Sept.r 27, 1989.
She is survived by three sons, William J. (Jeri Lynn) Kaverman of Fort Jennings and Ray A. (Ann) Kaverman and Anthony P. (Lisa) Kaverman of Delphos; three daughters, Ann M. Wiechart, Mary T. (James) Boehmer and Karen R. (James) Dickman, all of Fort Jennings; one brother, Mike (Patricia) Grothause of Delphos; a sister, Beth (Larry) Metzger of Delphos; three sisters-in-law, Jean Grothause of Fort Jennings and Marcia Grothause and Dorothy Grothause of Delphos; 20 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Norbert, James, Hubert and Paul Grothause; an infant sister; a son-in-law, Gary ‘Spike’ Wiechart; a great-granddaughter, Rebecca Wiechart; and a sister-in-law, Mary Grothause.
Helen had worked at the Commercial Bank for many years. She was a formerly on the St. John’s Cemetery board, and former member and trustee of the Delphos Canal Commission. She had been a 4-H director for 20 years in Putnam and Allen County; being a 4-H advisor was one of her proudest accomplishments. Helen was a very active Ft. Jennings Musketeer Grandma. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, genealogy, photography, and scrapbooking. She also enjoyed writing in the Putnam County Sentinel, The Delphos Herald, family history, and community history. Helen was awarded the Historical Preservation Award in 2015 by the Delphos Canal Commission and was named the Tri County Woman of the year for 2017.
A Funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Rev. Tony Vera, officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at Weber Funeral Home, Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:45 p.m.
