DOUGLAS V. HOEHN

FORT JENNINGS — Douglas V. Hoehn, 79, of Fort Jennings passed away on Dec. 12, 2024, at his home in Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania.

Doug was born on June 26, 1945, to Victor and Leona Hoehn at Fort Benning, Geoergia, where his father was stationed with the Army.  Following their return to Ohio, Doug grew up in the small farming community of Fort Jennings.  A graduate of Fort Jennings High School, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps from 1963-67.  Shortly after his discharge from service, Doug married his high school sweetheart, Alice (Hellman) of Delphos and moved to Michigan, where he attended Alpena Community College and Michigan State University, earning a degree in Park Management in 1971.  While in school, he worked seasonally at P. H. Hoeft State Park and upon graduating became a park ranger at Proud Lake Recreation Area.  Doug’s career in the Pennsylvania State Park system began at McConnell’s Mill State Park (1972-1975) and included tours at Crooked Creek State Park (1975-1980), the Delaware Canal and Ralph Stover State Parks (1980-1989) before closing out a 32-year career as Park Operations Manager at Ohiopyle State Park (1989-2004).

Over the years, Doug served his community in a number of ways; Big Brother, volunteer firefighter and Fire Warden, Little League coach, Boy Scout Cubmaster and Scoutmaster, and Ohiopyle-Stewart Community Center committee member.  He also performed a variety of  roles with Catholic church organizations, including Parish Counselman, Pre-Cana counselor, Catholic School Board member and was initiated into the Knights of Columbus. An avid outdoorsman, Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and woodcarving, but especially loved spending time with family, friends and making people smile through his sense of humor.

Doug is preceded in death by his wife Alice (2010).  He was remarried in 2013 to Patricia (Shaffer) Hoehn of Confluence, Pennsylvania. Doug is survived by Patricia; his children, Mark (Julianne) Hoehn of Las Vegas, Nevada, Brian Hoehn of Dundee, Michigan, and Vicki (Marc) Osman of Germantown, Maryland; and his grandchildren, Joshua Hoehn and Katelyn and Emily Osman.

A Memorial Service for Doug will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28 at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Jennings, followed by the  presentation of military honors at St Joseph’s Cemetery.

The family will be available to greet guests at a luncheon at the Eagles Aerie in Delphos from noon to 2:00 p.m.
