FORT JENNINGS Donald J. ‘Doc’ Meyer, age 80, of Fort Jennings, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 11, 1943, in Fort Jennings to the late Herman and Marie (Wieging) Meyer. On April 12, 1969, he married Kay F. (Schimmoeller) Meyer, who survives in Ft. Jennings.
Doc is survived by two sons, Nathan (Lisa) Meyer of Fort Jennings, and Cory (Mindy) Meyer of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Kelly (Todd) Cherry of Grabill, IN; a brother, Kenny Meyer of Warsaw, IN; a sister, Linda Meyer of Fort Jennings; sister- in-law, Carolyn Maag of Columbus Grove; brother-in-law, Jerry M. Schimmoeller of North Andover, MA; and nine grandchildren, Grant Cherry, Garret Cherry, Elizabeth Meyer, Alex Meyer, Kailey Meyer, Caden(Sable) Meyer, Cody Meyer, Leighton Oare, and Hadley Meyer, one great granddaughter, Braylon Meyer and one on the way. He was also preceded in death by a grandchild, Clara Rose Meyer; a brother, Gerald (Carol) Meyer; sister in law, Karen Meyer and in-laws, Norman( Norma) Hesseling, Norman Maag, Nancy Schimmoeller . Doc was owner and manager of Meyer’s IGA in Delphos. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was on the Board of Directors of Fort Jennings Telephone Company, and was a member of the former Fort Jennings Recreation Club. Doc loved farming, hunting, and attending grandkids sporting events and their 4H projects. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Obinwa, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a parish wake service will begin at 7:45 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church Maintenance fund or the Alzheimer’s Foundation for research.
