VAN WERT — The St. John’s Blue Jays had just 11 days to get ready for their season opener on Tuesday when they took on the young Van Wert Cougars. The Cougars gave everything they had but a late free throw helped the Blue Jays prevail 74-73 in a high scoring affair.

FINDLAY — Despite a strong second-half push, the Jefferson Lady ‘Cats (2-1) came up just short in a 45-43 loss to Liberty-Benton (3-0) on Tuesday night.
DEFIANCE — A strong fourth-quarter surge lifted the Tinora Rams (2-0) to a 42-27 victory over the visiting Jefferson Wildcats (0-1) in their season opener Tuesday night.
