Ohio cropland values and cash rent

Every two years, Ohio State Economist Barry Ward surveys rural appraisers, agricultural leaders, professional farm managers, farmers, landowners, Farm Service Agency personnel, OSU Extension educators, and others on their knowledge of cropland values and cash rents. The latest survey was conducted from January to April, in 2024 with 131 participants. Barry had adequate data for only Northwestern and Southwestern Ohio. So not enough data was collected for other parts of the state.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew

2 cups low-sodium beef broth 3 1/2 tablespoons flour or gluten-free flour 3 tablespoons tomato paste Kosher salt and black pepper 2 1/2 pounds boneless chuck roast, trimmed and cut into 1 inch cubes (I prefer Prime beef, I start with a 3 lb piece before trimming off fat) 1 1/2 cups Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced into 1 inch pieces 1 1/2 cups carrots, sliced 1/2 inch thick diagonal 1 cup chopped celery 1 medium onion, cut into 1/2 inch pieces 2 cloves garlic, minced 4 ounces white button mushrooms, quartered 3 sprigs fresh thyme 2 bay leaves 1/2 cup frozen peas, thawed Brown the beef in a large skillet on high heat. Transfer it to the slow cooker, and then brown the carrots, celery, onions, and garlic in the skillet.

Regional airports receive FAA grants

VAN WERT — Regional airports in Van Wert and Allen County, Ohio have received substantial grants for projects at their respective airports. Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown announced recently that seven airports in Northwest Ohio would receive more than $14 million through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.
