Rachel Smith from the SESA program put students through activities to test a sound’s pitch, frequency and volume. Above left: studen ts demonstrate how the sound of their voice produces vibrations that cause the salt on a bucket to dance. By changing the pitch in their voice, they could create fast and slow vibrations that made the salt dance at various speeds or frequencies on the top of the bucket. Above right: Students listened to sound waves travel through string using a hanger, string and Dixie cups. (Photos submitted)
