ALVEN ALBERT OSTING

TROY— Alven Albert Osting, age 93, of Troy passed away on Nov. 30, 2024, at SpringMeade Health Care Center. He was born on Nov. 15, 1931, in Delphos to Frank Bernard and Veronica Mary (Elwer) Osting, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years of marriage, Marilyn Florence (Brunn) Osting; sons, Philip M. (Debra) Osting of Troy, Jeffrey A. (Deborah) Osting of Piqua, Robert J. (Toni) Osting of West Milton and Christopher (Lynne) Osting of Doylestown; daughter, Cheryl Lee Hughes of Barberton; brother, Norman (Karen) Osting of Troy; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two step grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wilfred, Eugene, Moletus, Urban, Edward, Louie, Earl and Roger; and sisters, Geraldine, LaDonna, Marie, Vera and Earline.

He was a 1950 graduate and 1949 Basketball State Champion of Delphos St. John’s High School and attended University of Dayton.  He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. 

He retired as a sales representative with Sara Lee Corporation and formerly director of operations with A-To-Z Meats, Troy division.  He later worked for Miami County Transit for four years, SCOPE for 10 years and Sunrise Center, Piqua, for eight years. He loved working with handicap and Alzheimer’s clients. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy and a life member of the VFW Post #3035 in Delphos. He was honored on the 64th anniversary by South Korea dignitaries. He was also a participant in the Dayton Honor Flight 2014 to Washington, DC.

He loved his kids, grandkids and sports.  He also loved helping his friends on the farm and riding in the semi with his son-in-law, Terry.

Memorial service will be held at a later date with interment in Miami Memorial Park in Covington.
