LAWRENCE A. HILVERS

DELPHOS — Lawrence A. Hilvers, 87, of Delphos passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at The Meadows of Delphos.

He was born June 19, 1937, in Delphos to William and Nellie Daisy (Miller) Hilvers, who preceded him in death. He was united in marriage to Rose M. Kill on June 25, 1960. She preceded him in death on Jan. 12, 2018. They were married for 58 years.

Lawrence is survived by a son, Keith Hilvers of Delphos; two daughters, Sherry (Ron) Etzkorn of Delphos and Bev (Dan) Maag of Columbus Grove; six grandchildren, Aaron (Ashley) Etzkorn, Alyssa (Keith) Saum, Katrina Rose (Brett) Schwinnen, Cody Hilvers, Danielle (Zach Welly) Maag and Abby Rose (Michael Burkett) Maag; six great-grandchildren; and very special friends, Gerald and Kay Lindeman. 

Lawrence was also preceded in death by a brother, LaVerne Hilvers; and a sister, Margaret Sterling.

Lawrence retired from JB Tool and worked for Fruehauf for over 30 years until they closed. He served in the United States Marines Corp from 1957-1958. Lawrence was a fan of all sports and played softball for many years, playing up until he was 55. His pride and joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and would attend their events from dance recitals to football games. Lawrence never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. 

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Harter & Schier Funeral Home. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Harter & Schier Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Donor’s Choice.
