Extreme heat: How safe is summer practice?

As temperatures climb well into the 90s and beyond this summer, concerns over high school athletes practicing outdoors in the heat have taken center stage. From football scrimmages to conditioning sessions, the balance between preparation and player safety is becoming increasingly difficult to manage, especially with heat index values climbing into triple digits.
