The much-needed rainfall over the weekend has softened our soils in the area making now a perfect time to sample and test your soils! A soil test is a helpful resource when establishing or maintaining a garden, lawn, landscape, or cultivated field. For relatively little cost, soil tests provide invaluable information for homeowners, gardeners, and farmers by pinpointing nutrient and/or pathogen levels and providing recommendations on how to improve a soil’s condition.
PAULDING — Members of Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative recently donated $13,300 to 12 local charities and community projects through the cooperative’s Operation Round Up program. About 80% of PPEC members round up their electric bill and donate those pennies to this fund, making a huge impact in the co-op’s northwest Ohio and northeast Indiana communities.
VAN WERT—A new logo has been revealed for Van Wert County. The logo was designed by local graphic designer Ty Coil at the request of Van Wert County Commissioners.
DELPHOS — The Allen County Health Department will be hosting a vaccine clinic here at Delphos Senior Citizens Center on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 1-3 pm. They will have flu, COVID, pneumonia and RSV vaccines available. Be sure to bring your insurance card. This vaccine clinic will be open to everyone in our community, regardless of age.
VAN WERT — The Van Wert Civic Theatre is seeking talented actors of all ages to be part of its upcoming production of A Christmas Carol by John Jakes. This heartwarming adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic tale will feature a unique twist, with Dickens himself narrating the story and sharing personal insights.
COLUMBUS — Ohio’s minimum wage is scheduled to increase Jan. 1, 2025, to $10.70 per hour for nontipped employees and $5.35 per hour for tipped employees.
VAN WERT — The Van Wert County Humane Society’s second annual Bag Bingo fundraiser will take place on Oct. 12 at the Van Wert County Jr. Fair Building. Doors will open at 9 a.m. and bingo will begin at 10 a.m.
INFORMATION SUBMITTED DELPHOS — On Sept.15, an officer on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing the driver commit a traffic offense. During the traffic stop, officers found probable cause to arrest the driver, 47-year-old Margarito Alvarez Espinoza of Delphos, for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
VAN WERT—Murder suspect Ryan Houser made an appearance in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court Monday morning. Houser is charged with Aggravated Murder, Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and Having Weapons Under Disability in connection with the September 4, 2023 death of Barbara Ganger.
