DEAR EDITOR:

I just want to say “thank you” to those who are employed by the City of Delphos that hung the speakers in the downtown area and are playing Christmas music through them. My dog and I take a lot of walks and this past Sunday, when it was snowing, we were out again. The closer I got to downtown, I could hear Christmas music playing. When we turned onto Main Street, the music was crystal clear. Wow! Between the Christmas music, the snow that was falling and just being outside, all added up to “Best Ever!”

Also a special thanks to our city employees and elected officials who are doing their best to take care of and maintain our city and keep us all safe.

Merry Christmas!

Jim Webb

Last week, I traveled to schools around the state to hear from students, nurses, parents, and health professionals about what severe allergic reactions can mean when they occur unexpectedly in a classroom, playground, or sports field. These severe allergic reactions – known as anaphylaxis – can occur within minutes of exposure to any allergen. The most common allergens that cause anaphylactic shock are food, insect stings, and medications.

“Common sense is not so common.”

- Voltaire from “A Pocket Philosophical Dictionary”

Every day the U.S. federal government and its agencies appear to do their best to prove Voltaire correct.

Right now the safety of the vast majority of small communities around the country is under attack. As the Affordable Care Act - Obamacare - limps and stumbles its way toward full implementation after three years, Americans continue to discover new items within the legislation that will affect them adversely.

As I sit here writing this I am anticipating our impending snowfall. A check at 11:15 p.m., the white stuff was falling.

I know, I know, most don’t like to hear that four-letter word — S - N - O - W. It means shoveling and salting and vehicles getting stuck, difficult driving, longer commutes, etc.

On the Other Hand — How did this happen?

I was talking to my mother a few days ago and she said something that struck fear in my heart. Yes, my gentle, loving mother said what no one wants to hear: “Ya know, it’s just three weeks until Christmas!”

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!
