At 11:54 p.m. Friday, Delphos Police and Fire Department were called to the 300 block of South Main Street in reference to a fire at the rear of a residence in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, they met with the homeowner who advised that a subject known to the resident had been at that location and an argument had occurred. Shortly after the argument, the subject went outside and returned several minutes later. Delphos Fire Department put the fire out. The case remains under investigation.

At 7:16 a.m. Thursday, Delphos Police were called to the 500 block of East Third Street in reference to a theft from a motor vehicle at a residence in that area. Upon officers’ arrival the victim stated that sometime in the overnight hours, someone entered the unlocked vehicle and removed electronic equipment from inside.

At 9:43 p.m. Tuesday, Delphos Police were called to the 300 block of South Main Street in reference to an attempted burglary at a residence in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, they located Timothy Short, 29, of Delphos, outside of the residence. The victim stated that Short had attempted to gain entry into the residence but was unable to. As a result of the officers’ investigation, Short was arrested, charged with criminal trespassing and was transported to the Allen County Jail. Short will appear in Lima Municipal Court on the charge.

At 4:33 p.m. Tuesday, Delphos Police were called to the 200 block of East Fifth Street in reference to a domestic violence complaint. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim stated that a family member had threatened harm to the victim and that the family member was on the way to that location to harm the victim. A short time later, the family member did arrive in the area, at which time officers stopped the subject for questioning. The victim did state that charges of domestic violence were wanted by the victim and the victim did sign paperwork to press charges on the family member. As a result, officers arrested Derrick Coil, 32, of Delphos, and transported him to the Allen County Jail. Coil will appear in Lima Municipal Court on the charge.

At 9:50 a.m. Monday, Delphos Police were contacted by a residence of the 400 block of South Clay Street in reference to a theft complaint from the residence. Upon speaking with the subject, it was found that someone had taken a snow blower from outside of the residence.

 
Buckland woman cited for lane change violation after crash PDF Print

A Buckland woman was cited for improper lane change following a two-vehicle accident in the 400 block of East Fifth Street reported at 1:46 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police reports, Mark Hummer, 55, of Delphos was traveling westbound in the outside lane of East Fifth when a vehicle driven by Catherine Lambert, 50, of Buckland, also traveling westbound in the inside lane, attempted to change lanes and struck the Hummer vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

At 2:31 a.m. on Sunday, Delphos Police were called to a residence in the 227 West Clime Street in reference to an assault at a residence there. Upon officers arrival the victim stated that subjects known to the victim had came to the residence and upon the victim answering the door were assaulted by the subjects.

The case was forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for review and possible charges.

At 1:14 a.m. on Sunday, Delphos Police were contacted by a subject who had been assaulted in the 200 block of West Fifth Street.

The victim stated while at a business’ parking area, a subject known to the victim had approached the victim and after a brief conversation the subject assaulted the victim.

At 9:11 a.m. on Sunday, Delphos Police were called to the 900 block of East Fifth Street in reference to a criminal damaging complaint at a business in that area.

Upon officers’ arrival, it was found a vehicle parked at the business overnight had been damaged by unknown subject.

 

At 12:49 p.m. on Sunday, Delphos Police were called to a residence at 227 West Clime Street in reference to a domestic violence complaint at a residence in that area.

Upon officers’ arrival, the victim stated a household member had caused physical harm to the victim by slapping them on the head. The victim at that time refused to pursue any charges in the matter and the assaulting left the residence to allow the situation to calm down.

At 3:31 p.m., police were called back to the same residence for a second call of domestic violence at that residence.

The victim stated that Larry Brincefield, 50, of Delphos had returned to the residence and had caused physical harm to the victim. The victim did wish to pursue charges of domestic violence on Brincefield in the matter. Brincefield was transported to the Van Wert County Jail and will make an initial appearance in Van Wert Municipal Court on this charge.

The case will be forwarded to the Van Wert Common Pleas Court as a felony case due to prior convictions for domestic violence.

 

At 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, while in the 400 block of South Franklin Street, Delphos Police came into contact with Dustin Kunz, 23, of Delphos, at which time Kunz was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued out of Mercer County on the charge of larceny.

As officers were arresting Kunz, he was found to be in possession of drug abuse instruments. Kunz will face additional charges upon his release from Mercer County.

At 8:56 p.m. Wednesday, Delphos Police were called to the 500 block of Toomey Avenue in reference to an active domestic violence complaint at a residence in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, they made contact with the victim and additional witnesses who advised Bradley Weiging, 34, of Delphos had threatened to or did cause physical harm to a family or household member. Officers found Weiging had threatened the victim with physical harm with a knife and was currently still in the residence with the knife. Additional units from the Delphos Police Department arrived and took Weiging into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Van Wert County Jail, where he is being held without bond until he appears in Van Wert Municipal Court on the charge.

At 1:08 p.m. Sunday, Delphos Police were called to the 300 block of South Clay Street in reference to a criminal damaging complaint at a residence in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim stated that sometime in the overnight hours, someone had caused damage to their vehicle that was parked along the roadway at the residence.

At 8:11 a.m. Sunday, Delphos Police were called to the 700 block of North Canal Street in reference to a theft from a motor vehicle in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim stated that sometime in the overnight hours, someone had gained entry into two unlocked vehicles at the residence and had taken items from inside.

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Delphos Police were called to the 400 block of East Fourth Street in reference to a theft from a motor vehicle in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim stated that someone had entered their unlocked unattached garage and entered their unlocked vehicle and had taken items from inside.

At 10:14 p.m. Tuesday, Delphos Police were called to the 1000 block of Lima Avenue in reference to a domestic violence complaint at a residence in that area. Upon officers’ arrival, they spoke with the victim who advised them Shane Williams, 42, of Delphos had caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a family or household member. Upon investigating the complaint officers found enough probable cause to arrest Williams on the charge. Williams was transported to the Allen County Jail and will appear in Lima Municipal Court on the charge.

 
Alcohol factor in single-vehicle crash PDF Print

LIMA – The Lima Post of The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle injury crash that occurred Friday morning on Interstate 75 south of Breese Road.

Justin L. Reynolds, 22, of Venedocia, was operating his vehicle southbound on I-75 when he drove off the left side of the roadway into the median and struck the retention cable.

Reynolds was trapped inside his vehicle. Shawnee Fire and EMS responded to the scene and extricated him from the vehicle. He was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Corey D. Holt, 24, Van Wert, was a passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. He fled on foot from the scene and was apprehended, with the assistance of Shawnee Police Department, approximately a mile away on Dixie Highway. He suffered an injury to his head as a result of the crash and was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center for treatment.

This crash remains under investigation. Seat belts were in use by both occupants at the time of the crash.

I-75 was reduced to one lane of travel at the Breese Road interchange for a short period of time, while the investigation and clean-up were undertaken. The Shawnee Police Department also assisted Lima Post Troopers at the scene.
