VAN WERT — Van Wert Police are investigating a reported possible abduction and felonious assault in Van Wert. The dispatch center took a call at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday from a woman who claimed that she had been held for more than 24 hours before she was able to escape.

At 9:12 p.m. Jan. 23, the Delphos Police Department received a call of a domestic violence incident in the 600 block of Lima Avenue. Upon officers’ arrival, they met with the suspect and the victim. After investigating, officers found probable cause to arrest 21-year-old Thomas Garza of Delphos for domestic violence. Garza was transported to the Allen County Jail and will appear in Lima Municipal Court to face the charge, which is a first-degree misdemeanor.

Delphos Police are investigating a hit-skip accident that occurred on Tuesday.

Michael Strayer had parked his vehicle in the parking lot at the rear of the Thrift Shop at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday. At approximately 1:30 p.m., it was discovered that there was damage to the right front corner of the vehicle.

According to the report, security video will be reviewed to see if any suspect vehicle will be identified.

Delphos Police are investigating a hit-skip accident reported Sunday.

According to the report, a vehicle owned by Pamela K. Stratton of Delphos was legally parked on North Clay Street when it was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle.

Snow in middle of roadway may have contributed to crash PDF Print

No citations were issued following a two-vehicle accident in the 700 block of East Fifth Street investigate by Delphos Police at approximately 4:35 p.m. Friday.

According to reports, a semi tractor-trailer driven by Mark Hileman of Ohio City was traveling westbound in the outside lane on East Fifth Street. An SUV pulling a trailer driven by Michael Sponseller of Ossian, Ind., was also traveling westbound in the inside lane beside the Hileman vehicle. When the Sponseller vehicle pulled ahead of the Hileman semi, the SUV’s trailer struck a mirror on the semi.

Both drivers claimed to in their marked lanes. It was noted snow, approximately two feet high and three feet wide, was plowed into the center of the roadway.

The damage to the Sponseller trailer consisted of scuffs and tears to an awning on the items on the trailer.
