The following individuals appeared Wednesday before Judge Charles Steele in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court:
Changes of plea Nathan Wapplehorst, 31, Van Wert, entered a plea of guilty to possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree. A second count for the same offense was dismissed for his plea.
Ashley Gentry, 30, Van Wert, entered a plea of guilty to trafficking in heroin and possession of heroin, each a felony of the fifth degree. She also admitted to using a 1995 Chevy Blazer and $510 cash in committing the crimes. A third charge of trafficking heroin, a felony of the fourth degree, was dismissed for her plea. She then requested and was granted Treatment in Lieu of Conviction. The vehicle and money were forfeited to the State of Ohio. Donald Oday, 36, Van Wert, entered a plea of guilty to trafficking marijuana, a felony of the fifth degree. He then requested and was granted Treatment in Lieu of Conviction.
Matthew Brown, 51, Van Wert, entered a plea of guilty to possession of drugs, a felony of the first degree with a specification that he used a 2001 Oldsmobile car in the commission of the crime. A second count for the same charge was dismissed for his plea. The court ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for April 17.

Delphos Police were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of Fifth Street and Fort Jennings Road on Monday at 3:58 p.m. A car driven by Renee A. Burgei was stopped in traffic southbound on Fort Jennings Road at Fifth St. for a red light. When the light changed to green, Burgei waited on the vehicle in front of her to proceed through the intersection. The driver of the vehicle behind her driven by Dylan C. Klima, proceeded ahead striking the back end of the Burgei SUV. The Burgei vehicle sustained minor damage to the rear center part of the bumper area and the Klima vehicle’s damages were in the front center area of the bumper. Klima was cited for ACDA or “assured clear distance ahead.”

VAN WERT — The Van Wert man charged with holding up Klosterman’s Pizza in Van Wert on Oct. 24 pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of robbery, a felony of the third degree, Wednesday morning. Kyle Caldwell admitted to the crime and was immediately sentenced to the maximum 36 months in prison followed by 663 days of post-release control by Van Wert County Common Pleas Court Judge Charles D. Steele. The post-release control time was still in effect after his last prison sentence. Caldwell had been accused of walking into Klosterman’s with a handgun while covering the lower part of his face with a bandana. He reportedly pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded money from the cash register before reaching into the drawer himself and taking it before running out. No one was hurt in the robbery. Caldwell had originally been charged with aggravated robbery — a charge which could have put him in prison for ten years.
Also in court Wednesday, Sam Geckle, 44, Convoy pleaded guilty to fourth-degree felony attempted having weapons under disability, a reduced charge. Geckle faces up to 18 months in prison at his April 17 sentencing hearing.
Nicholas Devecchio, 27, Van Wert, entered a guilty plea to a pair of fifth-degree felony heroin trafficking charges. The charges were reduced from fourth-degree felony counts. At that point Devecchio requested and was granted treatment in lieu of conviction. The charges could be dismissed after Devecchio completes a treatment program.
Jesse Stemen, 24, Van Wert, pleaded guilty to possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree. Stemen faces up to 12 months in prison at his sentencing on April 17. A 40-year-old Van Wert man was found competent to stand trial. William Crutchfield is facing charges of felonious assault and having weapons under disability. Based on the report from Toledo’s Court Diagnostic, Crutchfield can go on trial, which will be scheduled at a later date.

Change of plea Mack A Johnson Jr. 18, Van Wert, changed his plea to guilty to a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the fifth degree. He then requested and was granted Treatment in Lieu of Conviction and his case was stayed for completion of the treatment program.
Sentencing Christopher Day, 40, Van Wert, was sentenced on a charge of possession of cocaine, a felony of the fifth degree. He received 3 years community control, 90 days Electronic House Arrest, additional 30 days jail, 100 hours community service, substance abuse assessment and treatment, 2 years intensive probation, driver’s license suspended 6 months, ordered to pay court costs and partial appointed counsel fees. A six-month prison term was deferred pending completion of community control
Probation violations Kyle Barnes, 26, Van Wert, appeared for a probation violation for failing to complete the WORTH Center program and for not paying court costs. He was sentenced to prison for 9 months with credit for 111 days already served.
Taylor S. Baker, 21, Van Wert, also appeared for a probation violation for failing to complete the WORTH Center program. He was sentenced to 12 months prison with credit for 181 days already served.

The Delphos Police were dispatched to the parking lot of Chief Supermarket at 1102 Elida Ave. at 2:53 p.m. Wednesday afternoon to take a report on a parking incident. Witness Tiffany Heidenescher reported that the vehicle driven by Robert Weber, 86, of Delphos, was pulling into a parking space beside the vehicle owned by Victoria Fisher, 55, of Delphos. While turning into the parking space, Weber failed to clear the bumper of the Fisher vehicle, which was unoccupied at the time, and the impact caused functional light damage to the left back bumper area. The Weber vehicle also sustained functional light damage to the right front bumper area. Weber was unaware that he had struck the Fisher vehicle. No citations were issued due to the accident occurring on private property.
