OTTOVILLE — Tuesday night, the St. John’s girls soccer team traveled to the Ottoville Sports Complex to take on the Lady Green of Ottoville.
The Lady Green came away with the non-league win 3-0.
The Lady Green’s win was bittersweet as seven seniors played their last match on the Ottoville soccer field. Rachel Beining, Monica Buettner, Kendra Koester, Casey Miller, Marissa Pohlabel, Rachel Turnwald, and Nicole Vorst – all starters for the Lady Green – were honored before the match and walked across the field hand and hand with their parents before giving them a big hug and thank you.
Unfortunately, on the other side of the field, the Jays lost eight starters – including seven seniors - from last year’s squad and are trying to find a combination that works to fill a lot of positions.
The Lady Jays, directed by head coach John Munoz, start only two seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen.
This evening belonged to Lady Green junior Kendra Eickholt. Eickholt, filling in as a starter for the injured Monica Sarka, really stepped up for head coach Tim Kimmet’s squad, scoring all three goals for the evening for a hat trick.
“We had to make a little change last week with Monica Sarka going out with an injury. We had to take Kendra (Eickholt) and put her out front and drop back Rachel (Turnwald); Kendra has always been a great striker and finishes very well as she proved tonight with three goals,” Kimmet stated.
Eickholt’s first goal came at the 38:51 mark in the first half.
She followed that up with goals in the second half at the 21:10 and 13:44 marks.
Sophomore Haley Landwehr and Turnwald also had a great night on the offensive side of the pitch but were unable to put a shot in the goal.
The Jays were only able to muster up six shots on-goal for the evening with junior Madison Kreeger and seniors Jessica Recker and Alyssa Gable throwing shots on goal that were either saved by Lady Green goalie Beining or swept away by the Ottoville defense.
The Lady Jays (3-11-1) will finish the regular season  Thursday  at  home  when they  entertain  Lima  Central Cathoilic  for  a  5 p.m.  start.
The Lady Green (9-4-1) will also finish the regular season Thursday as they travel to Fort Jennings to take on the Lady Musketeers, also with a 5 p.m. start.

Shots on-Goal: St. John’s 6, Ottoville 12. Saves: St. John’s -  Samantha Wehri 9; Ottoville - Rachel Beining 6. Goals – Ottoville – Kendra Eickholt 3.
