Lady Jays battle by Lady Bulldogs in 5-setter

DELPHOS — St. John’s lost a 5-set volleyball battle Saturday to Ottoville.
The Blue Jays hosted another Putnam County League foe Monday night — Columbus Grove — at Robert A. Arnzen Gymnasium.

The Bulldogs had earlier bested the Big Green in five sets.
Appropriately, this one also went five sets, with the Jays outlasting the visitors 24-26, 26-24, 25-20, 11-25, 17-15.
Leading the Lady Jays (6-12) on Senior Night were senior libero Katrina Etzkorn (30 digs), senior Christie Carder (35 assists, 14 digs, 3 blocks), senior Heather Vogt (10 kills, 12 blocks, 4 stuffs), senior Emily Horstman (10 kills, 3 blocks), senior Bailie Hulihan (9 kills, 4 blocks), senior Lauren Utrup (8 kills, 6 blocks, 3 stuffs), junior Samantha Schwinnen (13 digs) and junior Kaylie Youngpeter (13 digs, 4 aces).
Leading the Lady Bulldogs (11-5) — with one senior — were junior Julia Wynn (21 kills), junior libero Kelli Vorst (25 digs), junior Rachel Schumacher (51 assists), sophomore Hope Schroeder (3 aces) and 10 kills each from junior Elizabeth Selhorst and sophomore Sydney McCluer.
Columbus Grove hosts Ada 6 p.m. today and Crestview Thursday.
St. John’s visits Versailles 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

LadyCats knock off Big Green on the pitch

KALIDA — The Kalida Lady Wildcats kept pace with the Continental Lady Pirates in the race for the Putnam County League girls soccer title with a 3-1 victory over the Ottoville Lady Green at Kalida on Monday night.
The hosts scored three unanswered goals and took control of the contest after a early score by the Green. Kendra Eickholt scored nearly two minutes into the contest for Ottoville to give the guests a 1-0 advantage but a pair of goals by Summer Holtkamp and a header by freshman Brittany Kahle gave the LadyCats the win.
Jackie Gardner had an assist, while Kahle assisted on the second of Holtkamp’s scores.
The Wildcats outshot their foe 20-2 and controlled the field position for much of the second half.

Lancers shut out Bulldogs in NWC soccer
RURAL MIDDLE POINT — Lincolnview controlled the action Monday afternoon against Ada, pitching an 8-0 shutout in Northwest Conference activity at Lincolnview.
Haley McAbee, Kaylee Thatcher and Hannah McCleery each scored a pair of goals for the Lady Lancers (6-6, 4-2 NWC), while Brooke Schroeder and Samantha Bigham had one.
Bigham and Schroeder also had an assist.
The hosts outshot the Bulldogs (0-12, 0-5 NWC) 23-9 on-goal as Ariel Rall had 15 saves for the visitors and Julia Thatcher nine.
Lincolnview visits New Knoxville 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
