On Oct. 30, the Delphos American Legion Auxiliary held a Fall Festival Affair at the post for post members and their children and grandchildren as well as the public.
A lot of hard work, time and effort went into putting this on. We had barbecued chicken dinners and barbecued pork sandwiches, many games for the kids with some very nice prizes, face painting, make-your-own candy apples, pumpkin painting and a costume-judging contest.
All of the kids who attended had a great time and they all left with plenty of prizes because everyone got something.
The one thing that I was disappointed with was the turnout. We had it on a Saturday afternoon specifically so people could bring the kids out to have a good time and we had good weather that day.
We had plenty of publicity for the event.
We have more than 100 members in the auxiliary and I know you all have kids and grandkids. Where were you?
I am asking you to please support the organizations you belong to when they have an event like this. We are here to help veterans and we can’t do this without money. We have programs we have to donate to and we would like to do more in the community but it takes money to do these things and we were hoping this would be a good money-maker for our Auxiliary.
We also send two girls, one from each high school, to Girls State every year. It costs $500 to send two girls; the money we take in from Poppy Sales is earmarked for veterans only. We cannot use this money for anything else.
I’m asking you all to get out and support the organizations you belong to whether it is the American Legion, the VFW, Eagles or whatever because they need your support to function and to support their programs.
