Ottoville man dies in possible drowning PDF Print E-mail

OTTOVILLE — On Sunday, June 22, at 10:34 p.m. the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 transfer call from Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office for a possible drowning in Ottoville.

Upon speaking with the caller it appeared that 59-year-old Donald J. Burgei of Ottoville had possibly drowned in the family pond. He had been home alone and was missing at the time of the 911 call.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Delphos Fire and Rescue Dive Team conducted an investigation and search of the water. They were assisted on scene by Continental Fire and boat, Ottoville EMS, Ottoville Fire and Delphos Fire.

At approximately 11:49 p.m., Donald Burgei was recovered and pulled from the water. The Sheriff’s Office, Assistant coroner for Putnam County Dr. L. Criblez and the Lucas County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the cause of death.

An autopsy has been ordered. There is no further information available at this time.
