DELPHOS — The weather didn’t always cooperate but to Relay for Life of Delphos Committee members, the results were just as satisfying as years past.

“We had our ups and downs with the weather just like the life of a cancer patient but we came out on top,” Logistics coordinator Sue Apple said Saturday.

At the close of the event on Saturday, the total raised was nearly $64,000 with Bark for Life, matching funds and some sponsorship money outstanding. By late Saturday afternoon, Dr. Bonnie Jones, DVM, had announced the Bark for Life event had reached more than $6,000.

Both events have until Aug. 31 to collect money before another Relay goes down in the books.

Chair Breanne Carder was grateful for everyone who supported Relay.

“Our goal is to raise money for cancer research and we are very happy with the total,” she said.

Carder said she enjoyed the camaraderie of the committee.

“It didn’t matter what title someone had, we all helped each other and pitched in to get things done,” she said.

More than 70 survivors led this year’s event, a number that encourages Survivor Chair Cindy Burgei.

“We had a fantastic survivor turnout,” Burgei said. “That’s why we’re all here. The survivors!”

Sixteen teams participated in this year’s Relay.

The 2013 Relay for Life of Delphos raised just shy of $100,000 and put the 11-year total raised over $1 million.
