VAN WERT — The Van Wert Municipal Court has released the activity report for May.

There were a total of 773 cases for the month as follows: 620 traffic cases, 92 criminal cases and 61 civil cases.

The Court performed no weddings.

Fines and costs in the amount of $91,717.46 were distributed to government agencies by the Municipal Court as follows: $32,059.36 to the State of Ohio, $51,676.47 to the City of Van Wert, $7,277.40 to the County of Van Wert, $217.73 to the Van Wert Sheriff’s Department, $15 to Crime Stoppers, $70 to the Village of Ohio City, $30 to the City of Delphos, $191.50 to Capital Recovery, $25 to the Allen Co Sheriff’s Department and $155 to ODNR.

The above disbursements include $1,511 to Legal Aid, $4,043.50 to Victims of Crime and $2,734.00 to Computerization.

The total amount collected in back fines from Capital Recovery for the year is $14,792.03. The Court’s Supervision Fund brought in $2,461 for the month for a total of $13,019 for the year.

Monies collected for judgment creditors by garnishment for the month totaled $28,625.18. The nature of the offense and the arresting authority are factors which affect the distribution of the fines.

The charging authorities were traffic cases: driving under the influence (17), State patrol (10), SHF (zero), Delphos (zero) and SVW (seven); general traffic (603): OSP (487), Van Wert Police (87), Delphos (four), Sheriff (22) and Village (three); criminal charges (92): City Police (63), Ohio State Patrol (10), Sheriff (six), Delphos (10), Village (one), ODNR (one) and DOG (one); and civil cases (61): regular money-only complaints (47), evictions (eight), other-BMV driving privileges (one) and small claims complaints (five).

Judge Jill Leatherman signed two search warrants during the month.

Traffic/Criminal Activity: The Court had 481 scheduled arraignments, 229 pre-trials, one trial to the Court, two suppression hearings, eight preliminary hearings, seven probation violation/show cause hearings, no bond hearings, four sentencings, two change of pleas, zero no-contest hearings, no extradition hearings, no 12-point suspension hearings, no scheduled jury trials and two ALS Hearings.
