VAN WERT — Three Van Wert residents were arrested and charged with possession of heroin, a felony of the fifth degree, Friday.
Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach announced the West Central Ohio Crime Task Force executed a drug search warrant Friday. Riggenbach stated that after an investigation into reported drug activity, investigators were able to obtain a search warrant for 840 N. Washington St. in Van Wert.
Investigators found hypodermic needles, a moderate amount of suspected heroin, gel-caps containing suspected heroin residue, and money. All items were seized as evidence.
As a result, Gregory A. Lindeman, 44, Brittney M. Lindeman, 28, and Ruth A. Napier, 22, were arrested for possession of heroin and taken to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility where they are being held until an arraignment in Van Wert Municipal Court on Monday.
Riggenbach said a young child was also found in the hotel room when the search warrant was executed so Van Wert County Children Services was alerted. The child was turned over to the agency.
The hypodermic needles and suspected heroin were all located where the young child could reach them.
Riggenbach advised that a nuisance abatement letter will be sent to the property owner to make him/her aware of what occurred on this property. The purpose of the nuisance abatement letter is to make the property owner aware of alleged illegal activity occurring within the owner’s property and directs property owners to take action in the hopes of abating any future illegal activity. Riggenbach said the law does allow for the seizure of property, if the property owner knowingly permits illegal activity to continue within their property.
Riggenbach asks anyone that has information on drug activity contact the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office.
