Thompson, Bullinger shut out Spencerville in NWC baseball

DELPHOS — Jefferson’s Ross Thompson and Ryan Bullinger combined for a 8-0 shutout of invading Spencerville in Northwest Conference baseball action Monday at Wildcat Field.

Thompson threw five frames and the southpaw Bullinger mopped up with two innings of relief.

Jefferson hosts Elida 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The Bearcats hosts Lima Central Catholic Thursday.

Lady Green comeback falls short vs. Pilots

OTTOVILLE — Ottoville’s softball unit tried to rally from a 12-8 deficit in the bottom of the seventh frame Monday night but fell a run short, faltering 12-11 in a non-league slugfest Monday at Ottoville.

A total of seven round-trippers were hit, five by the Lady Pilots: two each from Church and Eitnier and one from Carnihan. The Pilots totaled 14 hits and committed three miscues.

The Lady Green — who amassed 11 safeties but added five errors — got long balls from Haley Landwehr and Stephanie Horstman.

Ottoville welcomes in Lincolnview Wednesday.

Archers shoot down Musketeers with 5-run 7th

FORT JENNINGS — Antwerp broke open a 2-1 lead with a 5-run seventh frame to down Fort Jennings 7-2 in non-league baseball action Monday at Fort Jennings Village Park.

The Archers out-hit the host Musketeers 9-5, led by Kaden Brumett’s 3-for-4 (2 runs batted in, 1 run scored) and Trenton Copsey’s 2-for-3 (1 run, 1 RBI).

Connor Wollenhorst, Mark Metzger, Alex Vetter, Sam Vetter and Caleb Bankey each had a hit for the Orange and Black.

Justin Clark (5 1/3 innings, 4 hits, 1 earned run, 3 bases-on-balls, 4 strikeouts) got the win and Brumett (1 2/3 IPs, 1 hit, 1 unearned run, 2 BBs, 1 K) got the save.

Jared Hoersten (6 1/3 IPs, 9 hits, 7 runs, 6 ERs, 1 BB, 4 Ks) took the loss. Dylan Van Loo walked one in 2/3 of an inning.

Jennings hosts Columbus Grove today and visits Bluffton Wednesday.

Kalida bashes Pirates in PCL baseball

CONTINENTAL — Kalida wasted no time in pouncing on Continental Monday afternoon, exploding for 10 runs in the top of the first, en route to a 5-inning 16-2 Putnam County League baseball rout at Continental.

The Wildcats took full advantage of their nine hits plus numerous free passes, as well as three Pirate errors.

Brady Laudick had two hits for the victors. Noah Lambert walked three times, while Austin Swift (2 runs batted in) and Jeffrey Knueve added two each. Colton Farrell knocked in three runs and Brent Hovest two.

Farrell got the win, while P. Thomas took the loss.

Kalida hosts LCC tonight and Columbus Grove Friday.

Kitchen stymies LadyCats

KALIDA — Megan Kitchen tossed a 2-hit shutout versus Kalida Monday afternoon, leading Ottawa-Glandorf to a 6-0 non-league softball shutout at Kalida.

Kitchen outpitched LadyCat sophomore Samantha Nagy, who only gave up five safeties.

The Lady Titans (7-2) were led by K. Miller (double), E. Annesser (double), S. Hempfling (double) and T. Cass (triple).

Kalida visits Spencerville today and Miller City Wednesday.

Grove buries previously-unbeaten Bluffton in NWC softball

COLUMBUS GROVE — Columbus Grove spotted Bluffton a 1-0 lead in the top of the first and then rallied with a run in the second, four in the third and a big 8-run sixth inning for a 13-4 Northwest Conference softball victory Monday at home.

Hope Schroeder (5-2) tossed a 6-hit complete game (4 earned runs, 2 bases-on-balls, 3 strikeouts) and helped herself at the plate by going 3-for-4 for the Lady Bulldogs (5-2). Katie Roose and Micah Stechschulte were 2-for-3.

Fruchey took the loss for the Lady Pirates (6 IPs, 12 hits, 8 ERs, 2 BBs, 4 Ks). Wilson Parkins went 2-for-3 and Willis 2-for-4 for the previously-unbeaten visitors (7-1).

Grove hosts Patrick Henry tonight and visits Elida Wednesday.
