Musketeers hold off Big Green in baseball

OTTOVILLE — Fort Jennings built a 4-0 edge after three innings and held off archrival Ottoville 4-3 in a non-Putnam County League baseball contest Wednesday at Ottoville.

After the Musketeers lost a 2-0 decision to Elida Monday in a pitchers’ duel, Dylan Van Loo gave them another pitching gem, going the distance in giving up seven hits, three earned runs, walking two and fanning two.

 

He outdueled Kyle Bendele (4 IPs, 4 hits, 4 ERs, 4 walks, 1 strikeout) and Jared Fanning (3 IPs, 3 BBs).

Kyle Hellman knocked in a pair of runs for the Musketeers (1-1).

Joseph Van Oss also knocked in a pair of runs for the Big Green and Bailey Seibert went 2-for-4.

Ottoville is at Ayersville tonight and Fort Jennings hosts Lincolnview.

Elida bashes Vikings in baseball action

ELIDA — Elida’s baseball team took advantage of every opportunity it got Wednesday night, getting a 13-5 non-league triumph over Leipsic at Ed Sandy Memorial Field.

The Bulldogs (3-0) only had eight hits but six of their 13 runs were unearned. They built a 6-0 lead before the Vikings tried to mount a comeback.

Adam Purdy went 2-for-3 (3 runs scored) and Max Stambaugh went 2-for-4 (2 runs), while Travis Watkins knocked in three and Travis Morrison two for the hosts

Neil Haselman and Justin Ellerbrock both went 2-for-4 for the Vikings.

Elida hosts Bryan tonight.

Lady ’Dawgs beat Knights in softball slugfest

ELIDA — The Elida fast-pitch softballers outslugged Crestview 10-9 Wednesday night at Dorothy Edwards Field.

The Lady ’Dawgs (1-0) out-hit the Lady Knights (0-1) 14-13.

Sophomore Michaela Black (1-0) got the win, while senior Kiersten Hicks (0-1) took the loss despite clobbering a pair of home runs.

Elida visits Lima Central Catholic (Faurot Park 2) tonight, while Crestview is at Van Wert.
