He was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Delphos to Edward and Leona (Gable) Warnecke, who preceded him in death.
On June 7, 1958, he married Norma Jean Klima, who died on Dec. 26, 2002.
Survivors includea son, Thomas (Cindy) Warnecke of Laotto, Ind.; four daughters, JoAnn (Edmund) Merricle and Jeanne (Mark) Hummer of Delphos, Laura (Mark) Ladd of Fort Jennings and Susanne (Mark) Wehri of Kalida; three brothers, Brother Dominic (Thomas) Warnecke of Meinrad, Ind.; Donald (Marge) Warnecke of Ottoville and Michael Warnecke of California; 14 grandchildren, Melissa, Edmund, Richard, Mindy, Nicole, Matthew, Amanda, Lee, Cynthia, Jessica, Joshua, Ryan, Casey and Ethan; nine great-grandchildren, Chase, Colin, Cody, Jada, Dylan, Landen, Kaden, Jaxson and Hayleigh; a sister-in-law, Janice Warnecke of Spencerville; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Dickman of Delphos.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Hubert Warnecke; and a sister, Beatrice Dickman.
Richard worked for the Delphos Stone Quarry for more than 36 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Delphos K of C and Eagles Aerie 471.
He enjoyed metal fabrication, woodworking, farming and gardening, especially potatoes. He also liked to hunt and fish. In his retirement years, he enjoyed driving the countryside and visiting the local businesses.
Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Harter and Schier Funeral Home, where a K of C Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. and and a Parish Wake will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Jennings, with viewing one hour prior to the Mass at the church, Father Charles Obinwa officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Relay for Life Cancer Fund or St. Rita’s Hospice.
