Members of Beta Eta Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met and heard author Fr. Mark Hoying, C.PP.S., and illustrator Marlene Kahle talk about their recent publication “I Believe in Living Stones” at Kalida Country Acres Golf Course on March 8.

God’s stories happen for Fr. Mark all the time and he hopes that people can see God in their lives. Marlene relied on her art background and her family to serve as models for her illustrations. She prayed for help before beginning her drawings. Both told about learning the publication process. They are presently working on a second collaboration.

Carol Schortgen, Jan Jones and Cheryl Kuhlman each won $25 gift certificates to Walmart.

The Chapter is celebrating its 75th anniversary each meeting in 2014 and has planned give-aways worth at least $75 for anniversary events. Pens with cases made by member Marsha Reth were given to members along with a commemorative booklet complied and made by President Diana Wehri and Co-Vice Presidents Marcia Barnhart and Nancy Kaufman.

A 50/50 drawing was also held and Kathie Roof was the winner. The chapter members and guests enjoyed lunch.

During the business portion of the meeting, the treasurer’s report and correspondence were shared. Members need to return their profile sheets to Research Chair Karen Okuley.

The Alpha Delta State convention is set for April 4-6 in Columbus. President Wehri is looking for program books from chapter years 1990-92 and 1993-97 which had loose-leaf pages. Also missing are red-covered program books from 2010-12.

Under new business, the election of officers for 2014-16 was held. Serving that term are Co-Presidents Marcia Barnhart and Nancy Kaufman, First Vice President Cynthy Kleman, Second Vice President Tammy Schroeder and Recording Secretary Mary Recker. Also serving during the two-year term are Treasurer Deb Hornyak, Historian Helen Devitt, Corresponding Secretary Joan Schroeder and Parliamentarian Charlotte Ellis.

A summer trip is planned for June 11 to Window Creations.

Charlotte Ellis shared a Lenten meditation, President Wehri thanked the committee for its work and the meeting concluded with song.

The next Beta Eta meeting will be held at the Ottawa Presbyterian Church on April 12 when Carol Wise presents “Hats Off to History.” Members are welcomed to wear their hats and gloves.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Beta Eta Chapter includes teachers from Paulding, Putnam and Van Wert counties.
