VAN WERT — Claude L. “Joe” Powell, 79, of Van Wert died at 1:50 p.m. Friday at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Marion, Ind., to Claude and Gertrude (Davis) Powell, who preceded him in death.
He was married to Mary J. Wallen on Oct. 24, 1961.
Survivors include three sons, Daryl A. (Debbie) Powell of Rochester, Ind., Claude L. (Sherry) Powell Jr. of Van Wert and Ray A. (Amanda) Powell of Van Wert; three daughters, Deborah K. Stewart of Findlay, Pamela S. Fackler of Van Wert and Cynthia J. Lewis of Celina; a sister, Donna (Don) Hoke of Marion, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin L. Powell; three brothers, John, Earl and Robert; three sisters, Rosemary, Claudean and Mildred; and a granddaughter, Amanda Powell.
He was a truck driver for over 45 years and was in the Army having served from 1953-56 during the Korean War.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. He was a true outdoorsman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Harter and Schier Funeral Home with the Rev. Russ Lawrence officiating and a military service by Delphos Veteran’s Council.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at a later date.
