WAPAKONETA — St. John’s scored the first points of Saturday’s Division VII State semifinal against Marion Local just 1:47 into the contest.

It was all Marion Local after that as the Flyers scored the last 35 in a row in grabbing a 35-6 victory.

The Flyers (14-0) advance to Saturday’s State finals.

St. John’s (9-5) senior tailback Tyler Jettinghoff ripped off an 82-yard run at 10:13 of the first period to get the Jays on the board first.

However, Adam Bertke rallied the Flyers, first with a 45-yard TD pass to Hunter Wilker (Peyton Kramer kick) with 2:32 showing in the first period for a 7-6 lead.

He added two more scoring strikes: a 54-yarder to Wilker with 10:27 left in the contest and a 20-yarder to Troy Homan with 7:29 to go.

He ran in a 17-yarder with 5:49 showing in the second period.

Jacy Goettemoeller scored on a 46-yarder with 11:54 showing in the second period.

(Longer story and box score in Monday’s paper).
