LEIPSIC — Eighth-seeded St. John’s went on the road to top-seeded Leipsic’s John Edwards Field Saturday night in an OHSAA Region 26 quarterfinal playoff grid contest and used the big play to slug the host Vikings 33-18.

St. John’s (7-4) scored on a 59-yard run by junior Nick Martz at 11:11 of the first period; a 61-yard burst by senior Tyler Jettinghoff (senior Ben Wrasman kick) at 2:52 of the opening period; a 2-yard power run by Jettinghoff at 8:28 of the second stanza (Wrasman PAT); an 8-yard run by Martz (Wrasman PAT) with 3:39 showing in the first half; and finally on a 67-yard splurge by senior Luke MacLennan with 3:32 left in the third canto.

Leipsic (8-3) tallied at 3:12 of the first period on a 1-yard plunge by junior Jordan Chamberlin; via a 56-yard burst by Chamberlin with 9:33 showing in the third canto; and with 7:08 remaining on a 5-yard run by Chamberlin.

The Jays await the winner of the Edon-Tiffin Calvert clash in a Region 26 semifinal contest next Saturday at a site to be determined.
