ST MARYS — The Miami and Erie Canal Corridor Association’s Canal Diggers Affair will be held Thursday evening at the St. Marys Eagles, 404 E. Spring Street, St. Marys. This fun evening features an Irish-themed pork dinner, cash bar, entertainment, raffles, auctions and more.
This will be an affair to remember as the Dulcimer Friends from Piqua will provide old–time music and special guest Sam Gardner will join us to talk about his life as a toll collector during the Civil War in Roscoe on the Ohio and Erie Canal. Gardner, reenacted by Chris Hart, the curator and living historian at Historic Roscoe Village, will share stories involving the village and the adventures of lads who stayed and others that went off to fight in the Civil War. Chris provides a history lesson that will make you smile.
Tickets for the evening are $25 and include dinner and door prizes. The Canal Diggers Affair will begin with a social time and music at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by special auctions, raffles and entertainment.
