KALIDA — Lima Central Catholic had ousted Miller City in a penalty kick shootout Wednesday night to advance to Saturday’s Division III boys District final versus Kalida.
The same thing happened Saturday afternoon at Kalida Soccer Stadium, just a different result.
The Wildcats won the shootout 4-3 — with junior keeper Brent Hovest saving the final two Thunderbird PKs — to grab a 2-1 victory.
The Wildcats (14-2-3) move on to battle Toledo Ottawa Hills at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tiffin Columbian.
Kalida’s Ian Richey, Luke Langhals, Jordan Kortokrax and Adam Langhals beat LCC netminder Ben Stechschulte (7 saves versus 9 shots on-goal during regular play) in the PK segment, while Devin Kortokrax missed.
Zach Schroeder, Sean Daley and Matt McNamara got PKs past Hovest (3 saves vs. 7 official shots on-goal), while Hovest denied Ryan Recker and Joseph Eisele.
LCC (15-4-1) scored at 29:35 of the first half on a Daley long shot that ricocheted off Hovest’s hands, while Kalida got the equalizer at 29:54 of the second half on an 8-yarder by Adam Langhals.
