ELIDA — St. Marys Memorial scored the only goal of the night just 4:39 into the contest and then used its stellar defense to hold off Elida 1-0 in Division II District final action Saturday night at Elida Soccer Complex.

The Roughriders (15-1-3) advance to take on Maumee at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Findlay in a Regional semifinal matchup.

Zac Nelson and Zack Wicker combined for a chip shot at the 35:21 mark of the first half, getting the ball past Elida junior goalkeeper Garrett Brinkman (3 saves vs. 4 shots on-goal) and into the back of the net.

The Roughriders then turned to their defense and goalkeeper Stuart Yahl (4 saves vs. 4 shots on-goal) to stave off a furious Bulldog effort the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs finish the 2013 campaign at 12-5-2.
