Lady Green sweep Miller City

MILLER CITY — Ottoville’s volleyball crew swept host Miller City 25-20, 25-13, 25-11 in Putnam County League action at J. Harry Leopold Gymnasium.

Pacing the Lady Green (1-02 PCL) were Annie Lindeman (13.16 hitting, 10 kills), Lexie Thorbahn (38/39 setting, 18 assists) and Kara Schimmoeller (22/23 serving, 8 aces).

Guiding the Lady Wildcats (1-12, 0-3 PCL) were Janke vanWezel (6 kills, 8 digs, 1 ace), Amanda Schroeder (4 kills, 3 aces, 11 digs), Kylee ricker (9 digs, 5 assists), Jana Schroeder (11 digs) and Chloe Ruck (6 digs, 3 assists).

There was no junior varsity match.

Ottoville is in a Bluffton tri-match starting 10 a.m. Saturday.


Eagles whitewash Musketeer boys

BENTON RIDGE — Host Liberty-Benton took the measure of the Fort Jennings boys soccer crew Thursday afternoon, shutting them out 2-0.

The unbeaten Eagles (8-0-1) scored both goals in the second half: the first a penalty kick by Peyton Schroeder in the 17th minute; and then in the 31st minute, Schroeder netting a goal via an assist by Jacob Lyberg .

The hosts outshot the Musketeers (5-5-1) 16-9, 8-3 the first half. They also owned the corner kicks 10-4.

Alex Vetter registered eight saves for the Musketeers, while his Eagle counterpart, Dillon Burkett, had three.

Fort Jennings pays a 10 a.m. visit to New Knoxville Saturday.


Pirates broom away Lady Bearcats

BLUFFTON — Host Bluffton defeated Spencerville 25-18, 25-13, 25-11 in Northwest Conference volleyball action Thursday at The Pirates Den.

The Bearcats play at Perry on Monday.


Cougars roll past Lady ’Dawgs

VAN WERT — Elida’s volleyball unit played a Western Buckeye League match at Van Wert Thursday and absorbed a 25-16, 25-11, 25-22 loss.

Stat leaders for the Lady Bulldogs (6-8, 1-3 WBL) were Torie McAdams (11 kills; 1 ace), Summer Grogg (3 blocks; 1 ace),

Katie Hawk (17 assists), Erika Kiel (14 digs) and Erin Bowman (1 ace).

Elida won the junior varsity match in two sets and the Cougar freshmen won that match 2-1.

Van Wert is in the Wayne Trace tri-match starting 10 a.m. Saturday.

Elida hosts Shawnee Thursday.


LadyCats romp past Kenton

KALIDA — Junior Jackie Gardner’s two goals led the way for the Kalida girls soccer crew as they routed Kenton 7-0 Thursday at Kalida Soccer Stadium.

The LadyCats (8-0-1) also received goals from Cathy Basinger, Alexa Ellerbrock, Lindsey Erhart, Brittany Kahle and Joni Kaufman in dominating the offense 25-1 in shots on-goal.

Kaufman and Courtney Buss had assists.

Laine Laudick had one save between the LadyCat pipes, while Jessica Boone had 12 for the Lady Wildcats (1-6-0).

Kenton hosts Elida 7 p.m. Monday; Kalida visits Archbold the same time Thursday.


Lady Black Knights down Kalida in volleyball marathon

KALIDA — Van Buren outlasted host Kalida 29-27, 21-25, 25-20, 11-25, 15-7 Thursday in a volleyball tussle.

Leading the LadyCats (7-3) were Liz Turnwald (10 kills; 10 digs), Alexis Decker (9 kills; 13 assists; 6 aces; 7 digs), Nicole Recker (15 assists; 4 aces), Madison Burgei (8 kills) and Carlee Miller (12 digs).

Kalida hosts St. John’s Saturday, starting with a 10 a.m. JV match.


Grove batters Paulding in NWC volleyball

PAULDING — Columbus Grove downed Paulding 25-9, 25-18, 25-9 in Northwest Conference volleyball action Thursday at Paulding High School.

The Bulldogs also won the junior varsity match 25-11, 25-16.

Grove hosts Spencerville Tuesday.
