Thirty years ago when my husband and I built our house, we decided in order to save some money and since we were smack dab in the middle of farm ground with absolutely nothing around us but a stray weed or two that might grow 10 or 12 inches high before it was hoed off by my dad, that we really didn’t need air conditioning. The breezes were enough to keep us cool we thought. Big mistake!  I was a lot younger then; and I swear it’s a lot hotter now!  But I do have to admit — we don’t have to shovel this stuff!
