ST.HENRY — The Crestview took on the St. Henry Redskins at St. Henry High School on Thursday night for the first round of an ACME baseball District Tournament at Wally Post Athletic Complex. The Knights were the home team on the scoreboard and used a fifth inning rally to get a 3-1 victory over the Redskins. The game was originally schedule for Wednesday night but Crestview got off to a hot start in the first innings, as Damian Helm recorded three strikeouts in the top of the first frame.

The Redskins had a easy first inning too, as only Helm reached base with a two out single in the first inning.

In the top of the third inning, St. Henry got a lead-off double from Garrett Stout who would come around to score on an RBI ground to the first baseman by Andrew Lundvall to make the score 1-0 Redskins.

The Knights were finally able to dent the plate in the bottom of the fifth when Bryce Richardson and Adrian Camp reach base via the walk. After Jordan Roop sacrifice both runners over to second and third.

Brock Rolsten hit a ground ball to first and the first basemen decide to throw home in attempt to prevent the tieing run from scoring but a wild throw allow Richardson to score easily.

Base hits by Cam Etzler and Mitchell Rickard loaded the bases with two outs. Helm would get an infield single to bring home the second run of the game and make the score 2-1 Knights.

After a one-two-three inning by the Redskins in the top of the sixth frame.

Crestview would get a little insurance as Isaiah Simerman single to start the bottom half of the frame stole second base and would come around to score on a balk by St. Henry to make it 3-1.

With two outs in the top of the seventh Josh Heitkamp and D.J. Kunkler would walk to bring Stout. Stout would jump on a first pitch fastball, after a visit to the mound by the Knights coaching staff, to loaded the bases.

Helm was able to strikeout the next batter to end the game and give the Knights a 3-1 win.

“Two pitchers throwing strikes we just happen to string some hits together. Cant say enough about our defense behind Damiam (Helm) tonight solid behind him. Hats off to the Mikesell kid and the Kramer kid we were just fortune it to string some hits together and get a win. We tried to get the pitch count up so they could get something to hit and so we could execute and get some runners moving. We tried to get the bunts down and luckily we got the balk call to get that third run on the night,” said Crestview coach Jeff Helm

With the win on Thursday the Knights will face off against Coldwater on Friday night at 8:15 at St. Henry.
