MIDDLE POINT - The Lincolnview Lancers baseball team welcomed the Continental Pirates to Lincolnview High School on a cloudy Tuesday, and he Pirates were able to run-ruled the Lancers by a score of 14-3.

Continental started the game off with a bang, as back-to-back hitters tripled to start the first inning. Zac Schwarzman lead off the game with a three-bag hit and came around to score on a triple by Terry Dockery III. Fred Sheppard came up two batters later and walked to bring up Gabe Williams who also hit a triple to score Sheppard to make it 3-0, Pirates.

Williams dented the plate on a passed ball to give Continental a four run first inning.

In the Pirate half of the third inning, Sheppard walked and reached second base on a passed ball. The next batter, Williams, singled home Sheppard to make the game 5-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the third inning, the Lancers got singles from Nick Leeth and Austin Leeth to put two runners on base. Kyle Williams stepped to the plate and crushed a ball to right field that rolled to the fence. By the time the Pirates got the ball back into the infield, Williams slid into home for a three-run inside-the-park homer to cut the Continental lead to 5-3.

The Pirates would strike back with six runs in the top of the fourth inning including RBI singles from Terry Dockery III and Tyler Dockery, but the big knock was a Schwarzman two-run triple to make the score 11-3.

Continental pushed three more runners across home plate in the top of the fifth frame with a two-run base knock by Tyler Dockery and a RBI single from Austin Mansfield to push the Pirate lead to 14-3.

Mansfield got a fly ball to centerfield to end in the game in the bottom of the fifth inning and give the Pirates a 14-3 victory over the Lancers.

“Consistency. We put together a good game last night and we came out and backtracked a little bit. They need to stick with what we are preaching, and we feel confidence that that is going to happen. Again, more consistency with swings and tracking pitches and just having better at bats,” said Lancers coach Kevin Longstreth.

Continental coach Terry Dockery Jr. was pleased with the way his team played. “We hit the ball pretty good from the start of the game to the end of the game. Some of our hitters who don’t usually hit well, did (tonight). We played pretty good defense we had a couple errors but we played a good game for what we got. The last time he pitched (Mansfield) he did the same thing, I think, a win against Ottoville. He doesn’t throw very hard but he throws strikes with his fastball and has a pretty got curveball to get ground balls and ground ball outs.”

With the the Pirates improve to 3-12 on the season and the Lancers drop to 7-11 on the season.
