DELPHOS —  Members of the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Firefighters Assoc. are arriving in Delphos today for the 138th annual NOVFA Convention.
“This is a chance for area firefighters to get together and talk, share stories and relax,” Delphos Fire Assoc. President Jamey Wisher said. “We don’t always get to do a lot of that. It will be  a great weekend.”
After signing up at the Fire and Rescue building, attendees will prepare for waterball at 4 p.m. and the queen’s contest at 5 p.m.
This evening, downtown will be a cacophony of sirens, horns and celebration as firefighters enjoy a cruise-in until 11 p.m.
Residents are reminded that equipment, such as fire trucks, have a larger blind spot than smaller vehicles and also take a little more time to slow down.
“Like any other time there is large equipment moving around, motorists and pedestrians should realize those big pieces of equipment have many blind spots and they don’t stop quickly. So, please give them lots of space,” Safety Service Director Greg Berquiest said.
Saturday morning will bring the annual NOVFA meeting at St. John’s All-Saints Building, where next year’s host will be announced. NOVFA officers will also be elected.
Following a NOVFA Past President’s Luncheon at the All-Saints Building, the parade begins at 1:30 p.m., with fire departments and a dozen local and area marching bands participating. The parade route is: State Street south to Second Street; Second Street to Main Street headed north; Main Street north to Tenth Street; and ends at Stadium Park.
The winners in the Big Ticket Drawing will be drawn at the fire station following the parade.
