DELPHOS — Local business Bunge and a host of other sponsors helped put on this year’s Safety Day at Stadium Park Friday morning. Second- and fourth-grade students from Landeck, Franklin and St. John’s elementaries converged on the park for an array of safety lessons in lieu of regular inside classes.
The event began as the children gathered around one of the park’s baseball diamonds with Officer Chad Haunhorst and his K-9 Iggy center stage. Officer Haunhorst demonstrated Iggy’s drug searching abilities. The children whooped and hollered as Iggy successfully picked the bag that contained the drugs. As the cheering died down, Haunhorst asked the children what drugs were; unanimously the children responded, “Bad!’
