DELPHOS — Activity could begin as early as spring on the vacant former Cintas property in downtown Delphos. The property was purchased by the Delphos Area Chamber of Commerce/Canal Days Committee and the Delphian Social Club. Paperwork was finalized last week. The property came with a $67,000 price tag.

Chamber Executive Director Maria Diltz said the purchase will bring many good things.

“This is a great opportunity to hold more activities and bring more people to downtown Delphos,” Diltz said.

This year’s Canal Days Chair Chad Schrader, who is also a Delphian Social Club member, was excited to share the details.

“We have a five-year plan to build an amphitheater, restrooms and a storage facility for Canal Days items,” Schrader said. “We’ll also fence in the area but it will be open to other groups to use.”

Delphian Social Club President TJ Schimmoeller said his club is pleased to be part of the endeavor.

“We are excited to be part of this joint venture with the Delphos Chamber and Canal Days on this purchase for our community,” Schimmoeller said. “We share the same goals as our partners to utilize this section of the downtown to benefit the people and local businesses. Over the coarse of the next couple of years, our goals will be to add features to this property and host activities for the public to enjoy.”

Funding for the property and upcoming projects comes directly from fundraising efforts such as the Delphian Social Club’s 3 on 3 basketball tournament and Harvestfest, Canal Days, local volunteers, local charities and private donations. The groups also received a $28,000 Arnold C. Dienstberger Foundation Grant in December.
