VAN WERT – Lainie Jones has never been one to shy away from crowds, but come Feb. 24 she may be performing in front of the biggest crowd yet when she performs at Ohio Has Talent!

Jones, a senior at Lincolnview High School, will be singing Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” for her performance.

“I’ve always been a fan of Celine Dion and now just seems like a really good opportunity to use that song,” said Jones.

Jones’ interest in performing in Ohio Has Talent! sparked after seeing a flyer at her school for the event.

“I looked at it and thought, ‘I could do that,’” said Jones. “I thought it would just be a really great way to go out with a bang my senior year. Go big or go home, I guess.”

Jones says that she has loved singing from a young age but that it wasn’t until she began participating in theatre that she really realized that she enjoyed performing.

“I got involved in my school’s theatre program when I was in elementary school and I always kind of stuck with it,” said Jones. “That definitely contributed to my love for music.”

“It’s always so fun working with a new set of people each year, but by the end of the year it always becomes such a family,” she added. “I just love being in the positive atmosphere and having that relationship with my peers.”

To add to her performance experience, for the past few years Jones has sang the National Anthem before Lincolnview basketball games.

“Not yet,” said Jones when asked if she was nervous for the performance. “I’m sure I will be when it gets a little bit closer. For now, I’m feeling good.”

Jones, however, is very excited for the performance and explained that she’s excited for the networking opportunities and the ability to get to know others.

“I’m definitely excited to meet new people that are so talented in this area; that will be so cool to see what other people have to offer as well,” she said. “[I hope] just to get my face, get my voice out there.”

Jones and 17 others will perform at Ohio Has Talent on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. The Niswonger Performing Arts Center will host the show. Proceeds raised from Ohio Has Talent helps Community Health Professionals fund their Patient Care Fund.
