RURAL MIDDLE POINT — The Lincolnview Lancers boys basketball team went into their game Saturday night against the Parkway Panthers in the Lancerdome looking for their second consecutive win as they defeated the Ada Bulldogs on Friday.
The Panthers proved to be a little more difficult to handle as the Lancers fell short by a score of 60-51.
Lincolnview started off the game with a quick two points as Parkway won the tip but it was quickly taken away by Lincolnview’s Jeremy Morris (13 markers — 2 treys) as he took it the distance for two. After that, it was a Parkway-dominated quarter as they outscored Lincolview 18-11 from there on.
Logan Hunter (13 markers overall) and Dillon Long (12) led the way for the Panthers. Hunter had five in and the period and Long added four. Lincolnview was topped in the first period of action by Anthony Simpson (16 points, 8 boards) with six points.
The second quarter was once again all Parkway as they outscored the Lancers in the quarter by a score of 17-9.
Cody Decker (with a game-high 17, including 4 triples) was the key scorer for the visitors in the quarter as he had 11 points, including three trifecas. Simpson had six of the nine points in the quarter for the Lancers; the other three points came from a triple from Morris.
Parkway had a big 35-21 lead going into the half, with Decker netting 14 of his points.
“We struggled tonight in the turnover department; we had a lot of turnovers. Jeremy Morris, who is usually a good ballhandler, had 10 and that hurt us,” Lincolnview’s head coach Rob Welch said.
The Lancers came out strong in the second half as they outscored the Panthers in the quarter by the slimmest of margins — 14-13.
Morris had five points in the quarter and Clayton Longstreth added four more for the Lancers.
“They are a big team and outrebounded us and are also good 3-point shooters and we were unable to stop them,” added Welch.
The Lancers trailed going into the final quarter 48-35. The fourth was another good quarter for the hosts as they outscored the Panthers 16-13 but wasn’t able to overcome the lead.
Leading the Lancers in the span was Sloan Whitaker with five points. Long topped the Panthers with six points in the quarter.
Lincolnview hit 20-of-41 from the floor, 3-of-8 3s, for 48.8 percent and 8-of-15 at the line (53.3%). They concluded with 23 rebounds (3 offensive), 17 turnovers and 16 fouls. Austin Kayser had four assists.
Parkway netted 23-of-54 from the floor, 5-of-11 treys, for 42.6 percent and 9-of-16 free throws (56.3%). They ended up with 21 boards (7 offensive) as Ryan Steinbrenner had seven. They added 11 errors and 12 fouls.
In the JV contest, the Panthers defeated the Lancers by a score of 58-47. Leading scorer of the contest was Jack Frank of Lincolnview with 16 points.
