DELPHOS — The Jefferson girls basketball team wasn’t a very good host Thursday night, pressuring visiting Ada into more than a few turnovers which led to easy buckets for the Lady Jeffcats and doubling up their Northwest Conference foe 68-34.
The Jeffcats dominated in the first quarter of action, jumping out to a 19-5 lead after eight minutes in the books.
Leading the way overall for the Wildcats was senior Mallorie Wilson who scored 18 points on the night, while junior Kristin Klausing netted 15 points on the night.
The second quarter of play was much like the first. The Jeffcats’ pressure “D” was all over the Bulldogs, allowing Jefferson to get some more easy buckets in transition to outscore the ’Dogs 19-8 in the second quarter, making the halftime score 38 to 13.
Jefferson mentor David Hoffman was very pleased with the effort he got from his players Thursday.
“We  came  out  and played  a  very  good  defensive game tonight and we also moved the ball very well on the offensive side of things. I was very pleased with the effort I got out of the girls tonight,” he summarized.
The Wildcats blew it open in the third quarter; the Bulldogs were scraping along just trying to get the ball past halfcourt. The Wildcats outscored Ada 19-10 to make it 57-26 heading into the final quarter of action.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs  (3-2, 1-1 NWC) was  Malary  Dumbaugh  with a   9-point  game.  Despite her  efforts,  the  Jeffcats’  “D” proved to be way too much for the visitors to handle.
The fourth quarter saw a lot of new faces for the Jeffcats, getting a lot of people some action on the floor. The Wildcats were still able to outscore the Bulldogs 11-8 and make the final score 68-34.
Morgan Fischbach and Courtney Lewis also netted eight points each for the Jeffcats in the win.
The Jefferson JV team (5-2, 2-0 NWC) also won Thursday, by a score of 37-31.
With the win, the Jeffcats move to 6-1 (2-0 NWC) on the year. They will take almost a 3-week break before they play again: a home game versus Miller City on Jan. 5 with a JV start time of 6 p.m.
