H1N1 vaccine available to high-risk groups

The Allen County Health Department is reaching out to those at highest risk for  H1N1 (swine flu) to make sure they are protected through vaccination.
People in the high-risk priority groups can call 419-228-INFO from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday to schedule an appointment. There is no charge for the vaccine.
“Vaccine supply continues to increase nationally, but we are still not where we want to be in Allen County,” says Health Commissioner David Rosebrock, MPH. “We really want to reach those most at risk – and that includes young people, especially children under 4 years of age and school children with chronic health conditions.”
Others in the high-risk target groups include:
• pregnant women
• people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
• healthcare workers and emergency medical services personnel with direct patient contact
• persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old
• people 25 through 64 years of age who are at higher risk for H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.
To pre-register for the H1N1 vaccine, log on to www.allencountyhealthdepartment.org, and click on “H1N1 Vaccine Info” on the left side of the page, then follow the links.  Pre-registering will allow people to complete their paperwork before arriving for their vaccine, however, it does not move them ahead of others who have not pre-registered or guarantee them a vaccine.
All clinics are contingent upon vaccine supply availability.
