DELPHOS–October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and being aware of one type of cancer tends to bring about awareness for all types. More than 62,420 cases of cancer have been diagnosed in Ohio this year alone and with these staggering statistics, awareness is more important than ever.
The Jefferson FCCLA, along with the Relay for Life Committee, has decided to hold a “Pink Day,” this Thursday.
“What we’re trying to do with Pink Day is remind people to have early screening for various types of cancers,”  said FCCLA President Brittany Garza. “Everyone will be wearing pink and we’re handing out ribbons for them to tie on their wrists and on trees or their cars. We would like to encourage the rest of the citizens of Delphos to join in.”
The FCCLA members from both the high school and middle school have been working on posters to take to community businesses as a way to get the word out about Pink Day. The schools will also color and cut out cancer ribbons to hang in the school windows.
“We took our idea to Mayor Gallmeier and he’s officially declared Thursday as Pink Day in Delphos,” said FCCLA advisor Joyce Larimore. “We’re hoping that businesses will encourage their employees to wear pink and that the people of Delphos will want to participate.”
