DELPHOS — Through rain, sleet, snow and more, local residents have been served faithfully with mail delivery day after day for generations. That service is carried out under the supervision of the local postmaster. The local post office officialy inducted its 22nd postmaster in history; she is also the second woman to hold the post. The first was Mary Risley, who served 55 years ago.
Marilyn Mulholland had been responsible for Delphos as the postmaster in Celina. However, she lives just south of the home of the Wildcats and Blue Jays and considers herself blessed to “come home.”
“I was very lucky to get a position right now, with everything going on in the post office. I count my blessings every day that I was able to get this job when I did,” she said. “I plan to be here for the next 15 years. I have 15 years until I retire and will stay here because I just love it.”
Mulholland, 42, began her career at the Lima office when she was 21 years old.
“I started in Lima as a clerk 21 years ago. I was a clerk and handled mail processing, payroll, time-keeping and those sorts of things. I did that until my payroll job was abolished but was an acting supervisor at that point, so I moved into management and moved to Celina as a supervisor in 2004. So that was my first official management position. From there, I moved to Elida and then to Paulding as the officer-in-charge. From there, I went back to Celina as the acting postmaster and now, I’m here. I live just seven miles south, between Delphos and Spencerville, so this is like coming home again,” she said.
Mulholland and her husband, Lynn, have five children between them, the youngest of which still lives at home.
