8 compete for Junior Fair King, Queen

Eight candidates, three young men and five young women, will vie for Van Wert County Jr. Fair King and Queen at 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the Van Wert County Fairgrounds in the Entertainment Tent.
Aubrey Culp is the daughter of Randy and Dawn Culp and is a 10-year member of 4-H. She has been club secretary for the Delphos Pathfinders, a 4-H camp counselor, 4-H ambassador and a member of the Junior Fair Board. She has taken various projects through 4-H, including poultry, rabbits, childcare, laundry, decorating and clothing. She has received Outstanding Project awards and has qualified for the Ohio State Fair.
Culp graduated from Lincolnview High School and was involved in the National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Science Club. She received the RK Thompson Award for student independence. She attends Calvary Evangelical Church and is active with the youth group and assists with Vacation Bible School. She is involved with the Son Rise Program where she works with an autistic child to improve his communication skills. She is employed at Derry Drugs and will be attending the University of Cincinnati this fall majoring in psychology and Spanish.
Kayla Kraner is the daughter of Dennis and Carolyn Kraner and also the late Darla Kraner. She is an eight-year member of Van Wert County 4-H. She has been in Willshire Wide Awake and Bunny Hoppers 4-H clubs. She held the vice president office for three years. She has qualified for Ohio State Fair numerous times with her health and financial projects. She is involved in Junior Fair Board, is a camp counselor and has participated in the 4-H Talent Show.
As a senior at Parkway High School, Kraner is involved in Foreign Language Club (German and Spanish), FCCLA, Pep Club, Friends of Rachel and was a teacher’s/librarian’s aide.
Her favorite memories of 4-H are 4-H Camp and making new friends. Kraner plans to attend Rhodes State College to pursue a career in sociology.
Adam Kroeger is the son of Ron and Michelle Kroeger of Venedocia. He is a senior at Jefferson High School, where he is active in FFA, football and a member of the Varsity D Club. In FFA, Kroeger is a part of the officer team and serves on many committees. He is also a 10-year member of the Venedocia Lads and Lassies 4-H club. He is currently vice president and has served on various committees.
Throughout his years as part of the Van Wert County Fair, Kroeger has taken hogs, feeder calves, turkeys, cooking, laundry and self-determined projects.
He is currently operating Y&K Custom Bailing, which is a business he and a friend started together through FFA. He has won several entrepreneurship awards for the business.
Kroeger’s future plans are to attend the University of Northwestern Ohio to study business and HVAC. He  plans to open another business of his own someday.
Jeremy Morris is the son of Todd and Jayne Morris. He is a senior at Lincolnview High School and is representing the Lincolnview FFA Chapter of which he is vice president. At Lincolnview, Morris is involved with golf, basketball and baseball. He is also a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church.
After graduation, Morris plans to attend college studying business or acc,ounting or might attend a tech school for welding.
Lindsey Mosier is the daughter of Clay and Sherry Mosier and a junior at Van Wert High School. She is an eight- year member of 4-H and is currently the president of the Young Riders 4-H Club. She enjoys working with her horse and looks forward to taking him to the fair every year.
Mosier is an active member of Ohio City Methodist Church and also participates in tennis, softball, Beta Club and German Club.
Casey Patterson is the daughter of Michael and Teri Patterson. She is a junior at Lincolnview High School and a member of the Lincolnview FFA, the Van Wert County Junior Fair Board and the York Commanders 4-H Club. Patterson is the reporter for her FFA chapter and the president of her 4-H club. She shows market hogs and meat pen chickens at the county fair. In 2004, her market hog won Grand Champion. She also participated in the Ohio State Fair, showing a White Cross Gilt and in previous years, has shown crossbred barrows.
Patterson is a three-sport athlete at Lincolnview, participating in varsity cross country, track and varsity cheerleading. She has competed at the district and regional levels in both cross country and track. In cross country, she has placed first team All Northwest Conference, second team All District, and 2008 co-MVP. In track and field, she was the leading scorer for her team which earned her the 2009 MVP award.
After high school, Patterson plans to attend college and continue with her interests in livestock and running.
Betsy Rager is the daughter of John and Sherry Rager. She is a home schooled senior and a nine year member of 4-H. She is a member of the Ohio City Blue Ribbon Workers 4-H Club and is currently Vice President. Rager has taken various projects through 4-H including sheep and clothing. She has qualified for State Fair with her clothing projects and received “Best of the Day” award at State. At the Van Wert County Fair she has won many awards with her sheep including Grand Champion Performance Lamb and Champion of Champion Sheep Showman.
Rager is an active member of First Baptist Church in Van Wert. She is involved in Youth Group, music ministries, drama and Vacation Bible School. She enjoys playing the piano and violin and raising sheep. She is self-employed as a private piano teacher of 15 students. During her senior year she is taking some college classes through online universities and plans to attend Moody Bible Institute next fall majoring in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
Ian Zollars is the son of Bill and Kathey Zollers of Convoy. He is a senior at Crestview High School and is representing the Crestview FFA chapter. As a four year member of FFA he has participated in Greenhand, Co-ops, Agricultural Engineering, Parliamentary Procedures and Barnyard Babyland at the Fair. He placed 8th in the State for Agricultural Engineering and received a merit award in Agricultural  Science. He has exhibited several projects at the fair in the welding and woodworking areas.
Zollars is also an eight year member of 4-H and is a member of the Ohio Challengers, taking woodworking and self-determined projects. He has won numerous awards and qualified for Ohio and Indiana state fairs.
Zollars attends Jennings Road Church of Christ and is an active member of the youth group and volunteers to do annual landscaping. He also participated in a high adventure camp and a missions trip to Mississippi after hurricane Katrina. He enjoys working on the farm, bailing hay for local farmers, playing the guitar and banjo, woodworking, baseball, football, basketball, swimming and spending time with family and friends.
